Only the one winner yesterday but it was the right one with Diamond Jim at $17 on the NSW tote. Beautiful ride by Schofield to get the job done. Today sees a solid eight event card at Ballarat and hopefully more winners for us.

Race One:

Small field here and that suits Parma. Got into the race nicely last start at Geelong but the brilliance of Olly got Heritage home by a lip over Parma who seemingly had the race one. Heritage is a handy horse and there are no handy horses here, unless one of the first starters surprise me. Dunn will ease the mare back and swoop down the outside and hopefully get the chocolates.

Race Two:

A trap race here. No confidence at all with all but one of these facing the starter for the first time. If I had to go with one, I’d suggest Not On Monday only because John McArdle has a good record with juveniles but again, it is hard to bet with confidence here.

Race Three:

Domesky has found the right race to break his maiden status. Had the three runs last preparation which included running behind Hollowlea in the Stutt Stakes and Backgammon during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. 1200m is not his distance, but I think class and the fact Craig Williams rides is good enough to get him home.

Race Four:

This is worse than the two-year-old race. Next!!!

Race Five:

He has to carry 59kg, but Ripleys gets the nod for me. Just went a fraction too keenly when he led last start and that was seen in the last 75m where he got bloused on the line to finish a narrow third behind Siberian. Arnold will send him across to be on the speed or just off it. He is a better horse with cover and if he gets that, then he will be awfully hard to hold out.

Race Six:

Team Williams is flying at the moment and Elms can make it three in a row here. Dead heated with Flying Hula last start but I think Elms deserved the victory as he went forward and gave Flying Hula a trail into the race. With a more patient ride by Mark Zahra, this boy can explode and if saved up for the final 300m, he’ll spank these.

Race Seven:

Plenty to like about French Friday. At each of her three starts she has worked home well, particularly last start behind Koala Bear where she made a great amount of ground. Rises to 1600m which is a huge bonus, the long straight helps and although she is still a maiden, I think she is in with a big chance in a weak F & M race.

Race Eight:

Take a pick here. An absolute lottery to finish the day. At some value, I’ll go with The Night’s Hot. She showed a great deal of promise last campaign which included a desperately unlucky second at Moonee Valley where she got held up and really should have bolted in. She then struggled on the Geelong Synthetic before failing on a bog track at Seymour before being spelled. Her lone 1200m start yielded a second in a Warnambool maiden but I think she’s suited over longer. In saying that, she is on her home track and she is drawn to get a lovely run here. Good e/w bet.
